Tea Parties; Taxes and Torture Served

I am a discontent and distressed taxpayer!  "Disgruntled" is a word that might describe my deep dissatisfaction with how my tax dollars are spent.  Yet, on April 15, 2009, typically thought of as "Tax Day," I felt no need to join my fellow citizens in protest.  I did not attend a "Tea Party".  I too believe, in this country, "taxation without representation" is a problem.  One only need ponder the profits of lobbyists to understand the premise.  Corporate supplicants amass a 22,000 percent rate of return on their investments.  The average American is happy to realize a two-digit increase.  Nonetheless, as much as I too may argue the point, assessments are paid without accountability, what concerns me more is my duty dollars did not support what I think ethical projects.

I am honored to present the work of Ralph Brauer.  For some time I have marveled as I read his research and reflected upon his work.  Today, this author of note shares with readers at BeThink.  I welcome Ralph Brauer.  May I invite you to peruse his prose.  Please ponder; then share your thoughts.

There is an elephant in the room no one wants to mention when you bring up the housing crisis.  It is the same elephant that has occupied the room since the very beginning of this nation.  Yes, it was there that hot Philadelphia summer when they drafted the Constitution.  Maybe that is what Ben Franklin is gazing at as he sits in the center of the famous painting of the signing of the Constitution by Howard Chandler Christy that hangs today in the House of Representatives east stairway.  Certainly the elephant had haunted Franklin much of his life causing him to call it "a constant butchery of the human species" in an anonymous letter written in 1772.  That elephant that haunted Franklin and continues to haunt us today is racism.

In March 2008, as Americans pay homage to the thousands of soldiers and civilians lost in five years of battle we discover that the Administration and the elite allied with earlier Executive Branches are more contemptuous of the citizenry than we ever thought possible.

I'm not a member of any organized political party, I'm a Democrat!
    ~ Will Rogers [1879-1935]

Those were the days, now long past.  When Author, Philosopher, Philanthropist Will Rogers was alive, people had the freedom to think  for themselves.  Citizens were not told they must follow the lead of autocrats.  Less than one hundred years ago, the United States Constitution was considered the supreme law of the land.  In the twenty-first century, the Democratic National Committee sets the standards.  Party officials determined that law abiding Congressman, and Presidential hopeful, Dennis Kucinich will not appear on the Texas primary ballot.
