    GOP Back on the Brink

With less than a week until Election Day, it's starting to look more and more likely that the GOP will be cast "Back to the Wilderness" (Archive No. 0837) by voters.  But beware: The last time Republicans were banished, they came back strong, first with their "Contract With America," then with a scary brand of neoconservatism implanted on the born-again blank slate of George W. Bush. Lord only knows what they might come up with this time.

    I do not feel settled (0.00 / 0)
    Dearest Andrew . . .

You are perhaps more optimistic than I.  Although, the Obama Biden event in Sunrise, Florida gave evidence that there is far more support for the campaign than there was in May, I still fear.  Will this translate into votes?

The sadness is here, too many aggressively support McCain Palin.  Even the children!
    What Pulls Us Apart
I am told the first time registered youth, who advocated for Obama, have yet to appear at the polls.  Those for the Republican candidates are on the streets.  I pass groups of youth as they megaphone barbs.  I hold up my Obama sticker and then I am slammed with words and statements that advance my distress.

Daily, I hear persons from every walk of life talk in sound-bites.  That reality scares me.  Two days a week, I stand on a corner and sign wave for Obama.  I live in an affluent neighborhood in South Florida.  This region of the Everglade State is considered the Liberal section.  Yet, a man in a late model black Mercedes passes me each weekend, rolls down his window, and says "Barack Obama is a Communist."  A very well-groomed women and her daughter, again, in a new black Mercedes, although this one is a Sports Utility Vehicle, stops to tell me, "My dear, you are so misinformed."  She then adds, "Ignorance is not a good thing."

The other day, another woman in an older beat-up vehicle, which from the sounds I heard as she waited at the stop light, is in need of repair, yelled to me, "You make me sick!"

Whether the well off or the downtrodden, which are far fewer, passed me, I received countless thumbs down, slurs, and slams of "socialism."  Some shared a thought that shocked me, "Barack is Black!"

The lawn outside the mall, a shopping center thought to be upscale, is graced by an extremely large, permanently planted McCain Palin sign.  Throughout the thoroughfare pink McCain Palin yards signs are strategically placed.  The streets are flooded with Republican banners.  Obama signs, even in exclusive neighborhood have been burn, torn, tattered, and painted on.
    Not in my backyard

I will not feel settled until I am certain Barack Obama will work for the people while in the Oval Office.  I hope many Progressives will have an opportunity to serve and secure a brighter future.  I yearn for the day when a nation united, Republicans who never imagined and Democrats who dared to dream, will not rise only to fall.
